Plato's Atlantis dialogues record that "...there occurred violent earthquakes..; and in a single day and night of misfortune all your (Greek) warlike men in a body sank into the earth,"

After a peaceful beginning, Atlantis evolved into a military dictatorship. Unjust wars were waged to gain power, resources and political control.

The mighty army of Atlantis planned to attack Athens. The Athenians did not wait for the army of Atlantis to attack. The Greek army boldly marched to attack the mighty City of Atlantis. The army of the Hellenes was marching up a dry riverbed toward the City of Atlantis when an earthquake began.

The alluvial silt of the riverbed became like vibrating talc beneath their feet. As the tremors continued all of the great warriors of Athene literally vanished into the Earth.
